De Spelbrekers

De Spelbrekers was a Dutch Schlagerduo. It was founded in 1945 by the two singers Theo Rekkers ( 1923-2012 ) and Huug Kok ( 1918-2011 ).

Band History

Rekkers and Kok had met during the Second World War in a munitions factory in Bremen, where they were used for forced labor. When they were sent to the Netherlands to seek out costumes for a cabaret program, they used the opportunity to escape and appeared to end of war under.

The nationwide breakthrough both in 1956 with the hit Carnival Oh wat ben ever mooi. In 1962, she won the title Katinka the Nationaal Song Festival, the Dutch preliminary decision to Euro Vision Song Contest in Luxembourg. There, however, they shared with Belgium, Austria and Spain, the last place. For the first time in the history of the competition, the Netherlands remained in voting without point. The success in their home country did the poor performance but no harm, and the song became a hit.

In the following years more singles followed, but without much commercial success. Adopted in 1975, the two musicians will no longer occur, and moved the focus of their professional activities to the music management. The presence of their artists include André van Duin, Jan Blazer, Ben Cramer, Saskia & Serge and Joke Bruijs.
