Dead Meadow

Dead Meadow is an American stoner / psychedelic rock band from Washington, DC.

Band History

The band was created in 1998 from the previous bands The Impossible Five and Colour. The founding members were Jason Simon, Steve Kille and Mark Laughlin. Their first self-titled album was released in 2000 Tolotta Records, which was run by Fugazi bassist Joe Lally. The vinyl version was distributed by Planaria Records. In 2001 came the album Howls from the Hills. In spring 2002 Laughlin left the band to pursue his career as a lawyer. He was replaced by Stephen McCarty. The live album, Got Live If You Want It came in mid-2002 at the labels Bomp! and Committee To Keep Music Evil out. There followed a Peel Session in Fugazis Studio, the first session of this kind, which took place outside the BBC studios. In 2003, the band signed to Matador Records and released Shivering King & Others. Following this success, Feathers Cory Shane was admitted as a second guitarist in the band, giving the sound was catchy as the song At Her Open Door clarified. 2007, the group split again by Shane and moved from Washington DC to Los Angeles. With Old Growth in 2008 released their fifth studio album, which only received mediocre reviews. 2010, the band brought out a concert film on DVD, in the movie sequences the issue of corruption, destruction and rebirth, with clips from the last show of their tour were combined by 2009. The associated soundtrack Three Kings includes live material and five new songs. In the fall of 2013, the band released their sixth studio with Warble Womb album and went on a larger European tour.

Style

Dead Meadow tried to connect 70 hard rock and 60s psychedelic rock. Are themes and scenes of writers such as JRR content Tolkien and H. P. Lovecraft taken.

Equipment

Guitarist Jason Simon used the brand Orange and Fender amplifiers. Previously used Simons an original Roland tape delay, which he now replaced by the Echo Park. Along with the Fender Telecaster Plus Dead Meadow reached a very penetrating guitar sound. In previous recordings, and while U.S. Tourgigs Jason Simon occasionally used a Fender 6x10 cabinet and a Silverface Super Reverb by Fender. During the recording of Feathers second guitarist Corey Shane played a Gibson S-1, 2 Fender Twin Reverb ( Silver Face 1 and 1 Reissue) with effects like analog delay MXR and Vox Wah.
