Debug (magazine)

De: Bug is a monthly magazine from Berlin, the " electronic aspects of life " is dedicated to. Among the editors understood alongside electronic music styles such as techno, electro or house, especially the interplay of different aspects of life with modern technology. The range of topics De: Bug includes the Internet as a social space, web and interface design, net art and file sharing as well as hardware developments, the latest computer games and software for musicians and other creative professionals.

1997 was De: Bug founded by Sascha Kösch, Riley Reinhold and Benjamin Weiss, the newly formed after the bankruptcy of Technozeitschift FrontPage. Co-founder and co-editor was Mercedes Bunz, who held the editorship also from 1999 to 2001. The first edition was published under the name of Buzz, but owing naming conflicts first in Re: Buzz and finally in De: Bug has been changed. Debugging is a technical term from the computer language and means in a broader sense as much as " track down a bug and fix it ."

The first 21 issues were - as is common with many scene magazines - funded by ads and were free from record stores and clubs, besides also subscriptions were available. 1999, the sales of single copies was converted to the magazines and railway station bookshops. Today, De: Bug in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg in the newsagents.

The editors of the De: Bug is located in Berlin -Pankow ( Prenzlauer Berg), close to record labels, clubs, Internet companies and fashion labels. The authors of magazine are music producers, DJs, radio personalities, software designers, graphic artists or bloggers and thus itself part of the De: Bug described culture. Currently, the core editorial team of Sascha Kösch, Felix Knoke, Timo Feldhaus and Jan Wehn.

Stands out the De: Bug by its avant-garde layout, which was characterized by its distinctive fonts and the large-sized newspaper format with newspaper until 2004. To date, the journal has for their design won numerous prizes and awards, including the Red dot design award for high design quality, the Award of Excellence of the European Newspaper Award in 2008, and first place in the rankings Genre Music & Movies of Lead Award.

Each issue is made by the editors to appear the following issue on your own website as a PDF file. On the website www.de- bug.de news and blog entries in categories such as screen, music, fashion and music technology will be posted on a daily basis. In addition, the De: Bug represented with a web radio channel as well as own podcasts on the net.

The current circulation is 25,954 copies plus 2,881 free copies per issue (as of 2013).

Is published De: Bug of their own, independent De: Bug Verlags -Gesellschaft mbH under the management of Sascha Kösch. On March 11, 2014 Sascha Kösch announced that the output 181 will be the last printed edition.
