Dee Caffari

Denise " Dee " Caffari MBE (born 1973 in Hertfordshire) is a British sailor. It was 2006, the first woman to circumnavigate non-stop westwards as Einhandseglerin the world ( against the wind ).

Life

Caffari grew up in rural Hertfordshire and attended St. Clement Danes School. Before the start of their career sailor, she taught five years at Leeds Metropolitan University in Leeds (Yorkshire ).

After Caffari had devoted six months to the Barbados Windsurfing, she decided for her sailor career. She worked for Formula 1 Sailing, first as skipper, later as manager of the fleet Farr 65s in the UK and the Caribbean.

From 3 October 2004, Caffari participated in the ten-month Regatta Global Challenge. The sailors who participate in the competition, held every four years have to go and Cape Horn by the Southern Ocean, where the winds can reach 70 knots ( 130 kilometers per hour).

On November 20 2005 she started her world record attempt to be the first Einhandseglerin to circumnavigate the globe. She finished the ride successfully on 18 May 2006 at 17:55 clock after 178 days at sea.

Caffari achieved in the single-handed round the world race, the Vendée Globe 2008/2009 6th place with a time of 99 days 1h10'57. " So she is the first woman who has sailed around the world solo in both directions.
