The Deep Creek is a creek in the southern Australian state of Victoria. He is a source of the river Maribyrnong River and rises north of Melbourne on the northeastern slopes of Mount Macedon and also takes tributaries from the southern slopes of the range Cobaw on. Both mountains are part of the Great Dividing Range.

The Deep Creek flows in a southerly direction and joins with the Jackson Creek to the Maribyrnong River. In its upper reaches it flows eastward into the broad, flat valley of Lancefield and then continue its course south through the deeper, narrower valley, from which its name is derived. Then the stream flows a few kilometers further east to embark on the southbound again at Darraweit Guim. In Bulla he then combines with the Jacksons Creek. The deep and relatively narrow valley that the creek has been excavated in the basaltic plateau, is particularly beautiful in places like Darraweit Guim, Konagaderra and Bulla.

The creek is not regulated, so that its water level varies seasonally strong. In recent years, the Deep Creek runs only in the wet season through water, only in some places there is water all year round. These pools are very popular for swimming in the neighborhood.

Etymology and alternate names

The creek was originally considered part of the Maribyrnong River and was therefore ' Saltwater River ', ' Upper Maribyrnong River ', ' Maribyrnong Creek ', ' Maribyrnong River East Branch ' or ' Maribyrnong River Left Branch ' called. Another name is ' Darraweit Guim ', the name of a small town by the stream. The present name 'Deep Creek ' could refer to the deep valley that has dug into the plateau north of Melbourne the watercourse, or on the deep pools in the river bed.
