Defense Commissary Agency

The Defense Commissary Agency ( DECA ) is a civilian agency of the U.S. Department of Defense, which maintains for soldiers of the U.S. armed forces and their dependents over 260 grocery stores ( Commissary ) worldwide. Council is based in Fort Lee ( Virginia).

History

The DECA began after two -year consolidation phase on 1 October 1991 to commence operation. Background was to make the world an adequate supply of American goods at reasonable prices, a more than 130 -year-old decision of the Congress, the soldiers and their families. The organization is now divided into three regionally responsible subdivisions ( DECA East, West and Deca Deca Europe).

Commissaries

The grocery stores ( commissaries called ) are only for members of the U.S. armed forces (including retirees ), their families, and, in exceptional cases, members of other armed forces ( NATO troops ) open.
