Defoid languages
Defoide languages or Defoid is a collective term for the groups of yoruboiden languages , the akokoiden languages (including Akoko ) and Ayere -Ahan ( together with Ayere and Ahan ).
These were formerly ( eg Capo 1989) interpreted as a genetic subunit of the West Benue - Congo languages . Based on current knowledge, however, the three individual languages are not closer to the Yoruboid - related languages ( Williamson Blench in Heine Nurse 2000). Thus Defoid is as a designation of a genetic unit no longer used today.
Sometimes Defoid was also used in the sense of Yoruboid; but this led to confusion with the original Defoid further defined.
