History

The Beginning - Ski Club Deggendorf

The first steps in Deggendorf Hockey dating from the late 40s. It was played on frozen ponds then around the city or on tennis courts, on which had been prepared for ice. 1953 entered the hobby player as a special interest in the ski clubs Deggendorf (SCD ). Two years later, you could be pleased with the opening of natural ice rink at the Edlmairstrasse to the opening of the Oberliga (then the highest division) Prussia Krefeld guested to a friendly match in Deggendorf. From the 1955/56 season the SC Deggendorf participated in the district league game at East operation. Because of the ever mild expectant winter it became increasingly difficult to maintain the operation of gambling, so that from 1964 to 1975 participation had to be set on the regular operation. Only with the construction of the ice rink at the Trat it went with the hockey in the Danube city up again. In December 1973, the new stadium was inaugurated, the completion of the roof took place a year later. Until the 1975/76 season it was satisfied with friendly games to piece together represent a football-playing team, with which you could then go to the lowest league, Bayern league at the start.

The successful years - Deggendorfer skating club

Due to the Liganeueinteilung the SC Deggendorf slipped to the Regionalliga Süd. Since the original club the economic risk was too great, separated on 22 June 1976, the Hockey Department of ski clubs from the main club and now appeared as Deggendorfer Skate Club (DSC ) to. The season in the regional league season 1977/78 they finished first runner-up and was able to celebrate promotion to the Oberliga Süd, under the command of the player's coach and former national player Kurt Schloder. To accomplish the league in the Oberliga Süd 1977/78, the team was specifically reinforced with foreign players. As an absolute godsend proved the two Canadian contingent players Rick Hindmarch and Jim Setters, which advanced to the absolute top stars in the following years and guarantors of success were. The season was completed under coach Fred Holger for the runner behind the EV Regensburg successful and the attendances exceeded all expectations. In the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga one fourth. Nachzurücken option instead of the EC Peiting to the 2nd Bundesliga took no one was. Reinforced with a number of German Canadians joined to the second season in the Oberliga Süd 1978/79 as a master from and made in the promotion round also in first place and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. The first second-division season 1979/80 could conclude sensational fourth, 3,000 spectators and more time were not uncommon. The second second league season 1980/81 they finished as third. The consequences of passport forgery scandal also went on Deggendorfer Hockey not pass without a trace. In the season 1981/82 the DSC had shorter step financially, the audience numbers were declining. The division of the league in a north and a southern group increased their waning enthusiasm. Could anyone in the group stage still reach the second place, was participating in the promotion round in which they had to order little injury, possible only by the early departure of the EHC München 70. From a sporting point was the 1981/82 season to date, the most successful in Deggendorf Hockey, but economically the club was badly bruised. A new league restructuring did not want to join you and a retreat in the Oberliga Süd was also knocked out. It began back in the national league. 1983 Deggendorfer skating club was settled and made with the establishment of Deggendorfer Ice Sports Clubs ( DEC) a new beginning.

First new beginning - Deggendorfer Ice Sports Club

After the bankruptcy 1982 Deggendorfer Hockey disappeared from the national scene. With a team of junior players and reservists from the second team started in the national League Bavaria 1982/83 a new beginning. Immediately they rose to the Bavarian League and the change from DSC for DEC was completed. A year later they moved to the "green table " in the Regionalliga Süd after, in the master you were in the 1984/85 season. The German Regional Championship you had to leave the EC Ratingen, however. In the promotion round to narrowly failed, but again we moved due to Liganeueinteilungen (introduction of the Oberliga Mitte) and financial difficulties of other clubs and launched by 1985/86 in the Oberliga Süd. In the first two seasons it did not come out with one for the most part consisting of local cadres on the league to achieve in the season 1987/88 as a surprise team in the league the promotion round in which they had nevertheless nothing to order. The following season was the blackest sporty and ended with an embarrassing relegation to the Regionalliga. After a rigorous reconstruction of the team was achieved under the direction of the new crowd favorite Brian Varga, the German Regional Championship and a return to the premier league. The decision was calculated in a placement game against arch-rivals EHC Straubing. Until the introduction of the 1st Division North in the 1994/95 season the DEC was an integral part of the ice hockey league. Although one usually failed to make it into the promotion round, the DEC was the undisputed crowd favorite and number one talk of the town in Deggendorf. By introducing the DEL also the foundation of the German ice hockey has been redesigned from the Oberliga Süd, the 1st Division was south. For the Deggendorfer Hockey a successful second phase began. After the introduction of the single-track 2nd Bundesliga 1992/93 and its abolition in 1994, felt the league with attractive opponents ( Bad Tolz, feet, Landsberg, Riessersee ), who provided considerable number of spectators, mostly moved beyond the 2000 border. No later than the Bosman ruling ensured that more and more well-known names and true professionals populated the league and also the Deggendorfer cabin. To simplify the economies in the " Flames", the nickname for the 1996/97 season, and not to jeopardize the charitable status of the parent association, a limited liability company was founded. Reintroduction of a single track in the 2nd Bundesliga season 1997/ 98, to whose qualifications you failed narrowly, had far-reaching consequences for the Deggendorfer Hockey. The audience took participation in the Oberliga Süd as a demotion and the main audience magnet as Bad Tölz, Riessersee, Heilbronn, inter alia, played higher class and the new opponents from Haßfurt or Ulm could not adequately compensate for this loss. The club was in a bind and they tried with costly obligations, the jump in the second class to catch up. Discrepancies in the environment, the annual changes in the game mode, constant changes in the team and a respected as unattractive game system exacerbated the situation further and also with the viewers the money no longer sat so loose as before. According to the 2001 /02 season, the " Flames" were beyond saving and had to report bankruptcy. Irony of fate was winning the German championship by the Juniors, the greatest sporting success of the club's history.

The second new start under the old name

EV A few years before the financial Exitus the Deggendorf GmbH Flames and the associated decline of the Deggendorfer ice sports clubs former players had founded a hobby club and gave him the name of the 1983 resolution Deggendorfer skating club. The members of the DEC, including all youth players and figure skaters, joined the DSC who saw this with mixed feelings, because you now own the club no longer had the majority.

At the time the team played the DSC in the district league Bavaria and managed in the 2001/ 02 season as champions of the District League Group East the rise in the national league. In the season 2002/ 03, the newly formed second team took part in the district league. This season, the rise was missed in the Bavarian League until the playoff semi-final against TuS Geretsried. 2004/ 05 the team rose as runner-up the national league behind the ECDC Memmingen in the Bavarian League on.

In the season 2005/ 06 the Deggendorfer occupied as a newly promoted to seventh place and eliminated in the playoffs against the EHC Waldkraiburg from. The ensuing season took Günter Eisenhut by Toni burner as coach. After the first round the team prize went two behind the Lower Bavarian town of Passau rivals and won in the play-offs the runner-up title. This Deggendorf was allowed to apply for the 2007/ 08 season in the big leagues. Once the documents submitted and a guarantee has been deposited, the ESBG has the Deggendorfer SC granted the license for the league. After several attempts, the managing committee agreed in 2006 to once again introduce a nickname. The name " Fire" is a reference to the previous club DEC " Flames", which was very popular in the whole region and thus an ID was created.

The first league season after five years ended "Fire" from a sporting perspective with the eighth place and secured in the first round of the play -downs against the TEV Miesbach the league. Before the season 2008/ 09 there was great euphoria by the statements of coach Bernie Englbrecht, who represented the opinion that he could make the playoffs with this team. As a result of the sporting descent not reach the class goal which, they parted by mutual consent of Englbrecht. Since the subsequent coach Gert Kompain could not stop sporting descent also, they parted from him. Thus, the former Fire player Michael Winnerl took over as coach. Under his leadership, the team was able to secure the last place, and thus escaped the descent into the Bavarian League.

The upheaval

The organization structured itself before the 2009/10 season to serious. With a new board, its sports management and coaching staff we went to the pre-season. With Florian Schäfer was found a successor who took over the office of the first chairman of Uschi star. With Michael Winnerl a former player of "Fire" took over the post of sporting director. A big surprise came when Norbert Weber, a former youth coach of the DSC, the place of the chief coach occupied. As the new officers were still struggling with legacy from the previous season, it was decided to make the most of the given. So you committed young, hungry players alongside the well-known Deggendorfern -grown. With great skill succeeded in the sporting leadership to bring one or the other experienced players to Deggendorf who have already made a name for higher-class clubs. The club was at the beginning of the season the only club in the league, who participated in a foreigner without the game operation. The new concept worked. While it was "Fire" the narrowest of margins last of the current season, so the team knew but always through performance and fight - especially the domestic audience - to convince. The new concept will be continued in the future.

Pleasing succeeded the student team of Deggendorfer SC. She was undefeated Bavarian champion and could thus in two games against the disciples of the Heilbronner EC - secure promotion to the Premier League - Heilbronner " baby hawk ".

The anticipation of the premier league season 2010/11 was great. Not only because you could begin after an eternity with the old rivals and neighbors Derby from Regensburg together in the same league, but also a new signing caused a stir in Deggendorf. Mike Sullivan, who has made the leap into the second hockey league two years earlier in the DSC jersey, returned to his stint with the Lusatian foxes back to Lower Bavaria. The basic framework of the "wild troop" of the preseason could be largely kept. The first third of the season, however, was not very successful for " Fire". You already retired on the first lap of the DEB Cup against the U20 national team. Following significant defeats team and especially coach Weber stood strong in the criticism. After a significant increase in performance by Christmas, but fell silent the critics. The team bribed, as in the pre-season by work and will power. Also, Sullivan and his compatriot Joe border could in the second half of the season often put their skills to the test and were, among others to the service providers of the team. In addition, the DSC developed a fearsome reputation as a " Overtime - fright ", as you clearly won the most games in the extension itself. Ultimately, you qualified for the first time since the league - rise for the playoffs and thus ran against the runner-up of the Oberliga Süd, the SC Riessersee. Although the Garmisch you knew to call this season as a kind of favorite opponent from Deggendorf view, they lost the fifth and decisive match at the Olympic Ice Stadium with nearly 2:1 aet

Venue

The ice rink at the Trat in Deggendorf was built in two phases in 1972 and 1973. Phase I bein held the 30 x 60 meter ice rink, bleachers and factory building. Even today's Sports Cafe has already been built. In the second phase (1973 ), the roof was built. The ice rink has a capacity of about 4,000 spectators. A few years ago, the Constitutional assets amounted to approximately 5,000. Capacity, however, was significantly reduced by the construction of the seats. The stadium was fitted in summer 2008 with a new band. It was also the roof, which was hit hard during the winter of the century 2005/ 06 affected, thoroughly renovated. Beginning in July 2013 it was announced that the stadium roof needs to be renovated because of a " massive progress of mold and rot " in the laminated beams of the roof structure. The interior Zeller Contractors Günther Karl acquired the stadium ground lease for 30 years and in a concentrated action, the ramshackle roof was in a nearly six-week renovation period away and built a new, modern steel roof. On November 24, 2013 Deggendorf Fire could deliver against the Blue Devils Weiden first game under the new hall roof.
