Dehdadi

Dehdadi is a district in the Afghan province of Balkh. The district is named after the village Dehdadi. The district Dehadadi with around 254 km ² apart from the unofficial provincial capital, Mazar-i -Sharif, the area 's smallest district of the province and one of the smallest districts in northern Afghanistan at all.

The district has a north- south extent of ca. 25 km; from east to west it measures about 13 km.

Geography

The district Dehdadi, although from a small area has a share in three major regions. The northern half of the area is still part of the Bactrian plain, a 300 to 400 meters high lying plains. To the south, from the village of Dehdadi a lößbedecktes, fertile foothills joins, which accounts for about a third of the district. The southern and south-eastern part of the district already pays for Afghan highlands. The district extends here to a secondary summit of the 1752 m high Ali cow up to a height of 1530 meters. The lowest spot of the district lies in the far north, in the Bactrian level to 337 meters above sea level.

South of the village is Dehdadi the barracks Camp Shaheen. Here the 209th Corps of the Afghan National Army is stationed. Within these barracks is the Camp Mike Spann, a barracks of the ISAF forces, named after Mike Spann, the first U.S. citizens killed during the Afghanistan mission.
