Dehkhoda Dictionary

The dictionary of Dehkhoda or Dehkhodas lexicon (Persian لغتنامه دهخدا, Loghat Nameh Dehkhoda or " Encyclopedic Dictionary of the New Persian language / the Dari " ) is the most significant and most comprehensive encyclopedia of Persian language and literature.

The encyclopedic dictionary was founded in 1931 by the linguist Ali Akbar Dehkhoda ( 1879-1956 ) with the assistance and participation of renowned Iranian scholars of Persian language and literature, as Mohammad Moin, Jafar Shahidi and many other well-known Iranisten and literary scholars in 15 volumes and in 26,000 pages published. The Persian dictionary contains over 4.5 million entries and explanations. It is the standard work in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
