Dejima Takeharu

Dejima Takeharu (Japanese出 岛 武 春, born March 21, 1974 in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture) is a former Japanese sumo wrestler.

Dejima, who was not using a Ringer assumed name, but took under his real personal names, came from the high school sports. He fought against his pro career for the Chuo University in Tokyo. In 1996 he moved to the professional camp and joined the wrestler stable Musashigawa - Beya. His early career was marked by a rapid rise through the ranks: in September 1996 reached Dejima juryo Division, in March 1997, the Makuuchi.

In November of that year he was promoted to sekiwake - and suffered in his first tournament in the new rank a serious injury to the ankle so that he could not participate in the next tournament and again fell back far. Then he climbed a little slower again. In 1999 he had fought back up to sekiwake. In July of that year he won the tournament in Nagoya in the elimination bout against Akebono. He also moved up to ozeki.

At this time Dejima was at the zenith of his career. The results of his twelve completed tournaments in the second-highest rank were not enough to secure him on a permanent basis a place at the top of the division, and so Dejima was demoted to simple maegashira in November 2001 again, and could not again work your way permanently to the top of the rankings. A temporary resurgence in the sanyaku ranks in 2003 had no consequences. Since its first serious breach Dejima was still repeatedly been the victims of various leg injuries.

The technique Dejimas was straightforward. He was limited usually to try to push his opponent out of the ring ( Oshi - sumo ). Most recently, he brought 162 kg weight fight on at 1.80m height.

As long as Dejima has continued to fight after the loss of this rank to date no rikishi. A successful re-conquest of this title, however, was rather unlikely given Dejimas removed starch and its already advanced in the league compared age.

In July 2009, the tournament Nagoya Dejima announced his retirement from active sports after maegashira 13 at the registry of 2-9 his descent into juryo division was imminent.
