Deke Leonard
Roger " Deke " Leonard ( born December 18, 1944 in Llanelli, South Wales ) is a Welsh rock musician (vocals, guitar) and songwriter who was Man and Iceberg primarily known as a member of the bands. He has published three books about the world of rock music.
Biography
In the 1960s, Leonard played in various Welsh bands, including Lucifer and the Corncrackers, The Jets, The Black Jacks, The Smokeless Zone, Dream and finally, The Bystanders. Some of these bands had gigs in mainland Europe, so also in the Top Ten Club in Hamburg. Early on Leonard chose his stage name " Deke " by Deke Rivers, the role of Elvis Presley in his second film gold from hot throat.
As Leonard in 1968 joined the Bystanders, they were just about to give her style a psychedelic direction, and they chose the new band name Man. Leonard took one to two albums, for which he also wrote several pieces. Then he tried his hand in a "normal " job, but came back after a strike action on tape. After a series of albums Leonard was forced out of the band in 1972, but immediately got the offer to record a solo album.
The album was released in 1973 Iceberg, a touring band of the same name was created. They produced a second album, Kamikaze, which, however, lagged behind the success of the previous album in the same year. Leonard dissolved the group and played from the beginning of 1974 again at Man until they broke up in late 1976 after another series of albums.
Leonard took on another solo album, Before Your Very Eyes, which, however, only in 1981 came on the market. The band Iceberg was revived, but without making new recordings. Following interludes in various bands Leonard founded with Sean Tyla (ex Ducks Deluxe at ) the band The Force, in 1982 brought out a self-titled album. After Tylas departure from it was a new incarnation of Iceberg, which lasted until 1983.
1983 It was re- launched. Leonard remained until 1996, he suffered a mild stroke. After his recovery he came back in 1997 to Man. This time he remained until 2004, then he decided to revive Iceberg again.
In 2002, Leonard Album Unfinished Business of demos and outtakes together. 2005 he released his next solo album Freedom and Chains as well as Wireless, a compilation of Iceberg radio shows from the 1970s.
Over time, Leonard read alongside the accompanying texts for various man- albums again and again articles for music magazines. In 1996 he published his first book Rhinos, Winos & Lunatics (2009 in German published ), the 2000 Maybe I Should've Stayed in Bed? followed. 2012 appeared The Twang Dynasty - From Memphis to Merthyr, guitarists did rocked the world.
