DEL2

The DEL2 is the second highest league in the German Ice Hockey by the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). It is operated from the 2013/14 season by the Hockey operating company ( ESBG ).

Foundation

The Second Hockey League mbH was founded on May 2, 2013 Ernst Rupp, CEO of Heilbronner Falken. The foundation was preceded by a lengthy dispute between Hockey mbH ( ESBG ), operator of the second Hockey League, and the German Ice Hockey Federation ( DEB). This was kindled by the 2011 negotiated cooperation agreement between DEB and DEL, the ESBG refused to reason from their point of view unacceptable conditions. A climb from the 2nd Bundesliga in the DEL, therefore, was no longer possible. As a result, the second division, who were shareholders of ESBG next to the DEB, the DEB spoke from the voting rights in the ESBG, which held that a fiduciary capacity for the no longer ESBG belonging Oberligen. The ESBG announced in November 2012 its cooperation agreement with the DEB and its national ice sports associations. Finally, the second division decided on 18 April, 2013, to start their own game operating company and to cooperate closely with the DEL.

The DEB announced to explain this foundation the "wild league," whereupon the ESBG filed an application for injunction before the Regional Court of Munich. The originally scheduled for July 4 hearing on the injunction request was transferred from the Munich District Court on 18 July 2013 as well as the scheduled for July 1, 2013 shareholders meeting of ESBG has been moved. On 17 July 2013, the DEB and the clubs in the second division agreed before the court date out of court. The game operation of the second division is first carried on by the ESBG until 2018, however, the league will continue to manage themselves. A cooperation agreement is to be re- entered into between DEB and ESBG.
