Dolphin (Eng. "Dolphins " ) was a Portuguese pop band.
History
The band goes back to the first sample in 1981. The singer Miguel Ângelo, brother of founding bassist João Carlos, came in 1982 in the group that completed in 1983 with the drummer Pedro Malkow. In the year they gave their first concert, at the wedding of her sister, guitarist Fernando Cunha, on the beach of Praia do Guincho Cascais near her hometown. 1984 they recorded their first single for the independent label Fundação Atlântica ( Pedro Ayres Magalhães of others). In a recording pauses in the studio is her name by her manager António Cunha, the brother of guitarist set to dolphin. The record was released as a single and as a maxi-single.
In 1985, she played for the first time in Lisbon skirt Rendez -Vous, and kicked at the festival since Canção 1985 RTP to that decided the representative of Portugal in the Euro Vision Song Contest 1985. With her song A Casa da Praia they finished doing the last place.
Your next debut album Libertação is produced by Carlos Maria Trindade and published by EMI - Valentim de Carvalho 1987. It contains seven original songs and a version of the song Canção de engate, António Variações. In 1988 their second album and a maxi-single of the piece 1 Lugar ao Sol, and they opened the concert by Simply Red in Cascais.
In 1990, she changed the label and were the first Portuguese band Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG ). In the same year they released their third album Desalinhados, and they opened the concert of Tina Turner in the stadium of Sporting Lisbon ( Estádio José Alvalade near the present XXI).
In 1993 they released their concept album Ser Maior as a double CD and a triple- LP, which they had received in their own 1 Só Céu studios. They played at the Zénith (Paris) and gave three sold-out concerts in succession in Lisbon Teatro da Trindade. In 1994 she participated in the tribute projects for José Afonso and António Variações, and composed the music (and played some minor roles ) in the piece Breve História de Deus SuMaRiO because of Gil Vicente, Carlos Avilez at the Teatro Experimental de Cascais staged.
In 1995, she appeared in Rio de Janeiro in Macau and the opening act for Fernanda Abreu. In the year appeared another best-of compilation, with two new songs. Above all, one of the two new songs, the title -giving O Caminho da Felicidade, is extremely successful, and the album gets multi-platinum. 1996, they released their album Saber A- Mar, which they recorded with musicians all over the world, especially in Brazil, with Roberto Frejat ( the band Barao Vermelho ), o with Paulinho Moska, the brass section of Djavan, and the rapper Gabriel Pensador, but also with a Zulu choir.
In 1997 they were honored for 500,000 units sold the tapes that they released for the BMG by their record company. The same year she appeared in three sold-out nights at Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon, and they played in the Brixton Academy in London.
In 1998 they released their album Azul also in a Spanish ( Castilian ) eingesungenen version that was published in Spain and some other countries. After the return of some old band members they sang, as now seven -piece band, the theme music of the Portuguese edition of Big Brother ( TV show ), and published in 2000 their seventh album Del7ins (sometimes listed as Se7e ), which, however, disappointed the sales expectations.
After several best-of compilations and live recordings, some of which appeared as a DVD ( including her concert at the Centro Cultural de Belém ), they released their 2007 album recorded in England dolphin '. '
In 2009 she gave the end as an active band announced a farewell tour, and their last concert, New Year's Eve 2009 in the beach cove their home town of Cascais. However, for the future, they have announced the publication of previously unreleased video and audio recordings.
The musicians of the dolphin were occasionally involved in other projects, including the successful All- Star project Resistência. Especially the singer Miguel Ângelo, who also worked as a music presenter on television and with solo albums, as well as bassist and guitarist Rui Fadigas Fernando Cunha release albums, both solo and as guests of other bands. So Ângelo is part of the band project Movimento that the Neuintrepretationen Portuguese popular music of the 60s is dedicated to, inspired by the style of Motown and the mods.
