Delilah (missile)

Delilah AL

The Delilah cruise missile is a medium range. It is produced by the Israeli company Israel Military Industries.

Development

The development at the former TAAS began in the 1980s. The design is based on the MQM -74 Chukar target drone. First, Delilah was conceived as an anti-radar drone. This was supposed to fly into enemy territory, locate there radars and destroy them. This drone was introduced in the late 1980s under the name STAR -1 with the Israeli armed forces. Based on this concept arose later, the Delilah cruise missile. This was introduced in the Israeli armed forces in 1995. Furthermore, one works at IMI to an embodiment of Delilah for use from submarines. This design is intended to have a range of 300-400 km. Furthermore, you work together with China to an air -launched cruise missile based on the Delilah.

Technology

Delilah can be used against ships, vehicles and buildings. It can be used of airplanes, helicopters, ships and vehicles from. Except for the launch aircraft from the cruise missile is accelerated by a solid rocket boosters at startup. After burning the booster this is discarded and the turbojet cruise engine ignites. The flight to your destination can be contour flight or at a maximum altitude of 9,144 m. It achieves a precision (CEP ) of around 1 m.

Delilah navigated primarily of GPS / INS system. Final approach to a FLIR sensor is employed. A two - way data link transmits a TV picture to surgeon can target by which these objectives ( man-in -the-loop ). This also combating moving targets ( up to 50 km / h) is possible. If no target is found, the cruise missile for extended periods may circle over the target area and hold for targets out.

Delilah can also be used autonomously against pre-programmed goals. For use - flight planning and a variety of waypoints are set. If necessary, the missile can be reprogrammed with the 2- way data link even after the launch.

The warhead consists of an armor-piercing charge ends with a fragmentation casing. The igniter has several modes of operation ( surcharge or delay fuze ) to combat both surface targets, as well bunkered and hardened objects effectively.
