Delmer Daves

Delmer Daves Lawrence ( born July 24, 1904 in San Francisco, † August 17 1977 in La Jolla, California ) was an American screenwriter and director.

Life

Delmer Daves studied law, but never practiced a legal profession. After some years held various crew tasks, he was from 1928 to 1932 worked as an actor and in 1929 primarily as a screenwriter. In 1943, he directed her first in the movie Destination Tokyo.

The turned under his direction, the film Broken Arrow ( Broken Arrow ) from 1950 is one of the first indian friendly Western Hollywood. He is a very free-form adaptation of the historical novel Blood Brother by Elliott Arnold and focuses on the development of friendship between two historically authentic personalities in the history of Arizona, the Chiricahua chief Cochise (played by Jeff Chandler ) and the white scout and Postreiter Tom Jeffords (played by James Stewart). Another successful Western he turned to Count to three and pray ( 3:10 to Yuma, 1957).

1953 Dave joined with the film Island of the angry gods (Bird of Paradise ) for the first time as a movie producer in appearance. For his achievements in the film industry, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Since 1938 he was married to actress Mary Lawrence. The marriage produced three children.
