The Delphi Corporation is an American automotive supplier, was established in 1998. The group had separated from General Motors on 28 May 1999 and has since been traded on the New York Stock Exchange ( ticker symbol DPH ). The issue price was $ 17.

Since the Delphi Corporation existed as a corporate part of General Motors until May 28, 1999, so that the new company was still the General Motors shareholders got any General Motors shareholder for two General Motors shares a Delphi free share. At the same time General Motors stock price fell on May 28, 1999 at $ 8.50.

The entire spin-off was made to reward the Delphi employees differently than the proverbial high-paying " General Motors worker ". So it was a kind of outsourcing, as can be observed also at other companies.

The annual turnover of Delphi Corporation in 2010 was 13.817 billion U.S. dollars. The company is headquartered in Troy, Michigan, near Detroit. Approximately 146,600 employees working for Delphi Corporation Worldwide.

Delphi acts as one of the world's leading suppliers to the automotive industry, with locations all over the world. In the field of consumer electronics, Delphi operated with SDARS receivers for mobile and stationary reception.

On the European market Delphi took over in November 2003, the Grundig Car InterMedia System GmbH.

On 8 October 2005, the company filed for bankruptcy protection under the U.S. Chapter 11 of this precursor to ( under European understanding ) insolvency were only the U.S. part of the company, but does not affect the reported U.S. business seats.

According to a published on 31 March 2006 Reorganisation Delphi focused on its core business and separated from other areas. This approximately 8,500 jobs from the Delphi Group was dissolved and sold to interested companies around the world. Through these measures, the current Chapter 11 proceedings in the first half of 2007 should be completed, but was postponed due to the problems of American commercial banks to the first quarter of 2008. Due to the impact of the economic crisis of 2008 on the automotive and supplier industry it has taken until 7 October 2009 that it has come to an agreement before the New York court, as the Chapter 11 proceedings may be left. Meanwhile, Delphi has left the Chapter 11 proceedings.

Only parts of the company went back to the former parent company General Motors. The new, much smaller company operates as Delphi Holdings.

One in June 2009 before the planned start of the investor Platinum Equity was rejected by the creditors.

Delphi Germany GmbH

The German plants are operated by the dolphin Germany GmbH. This is based in Technology Park in the south Wuppertal- Elberfeld, where there is also the Germany headquarters of Delphi Automotive as well as the competence center for e- mobility.

The Delphi Germany GmbH employs nearly 2900 people, 700 of them in the Wuppertal headquarters. The share of the LLC on sales of the entire company is 1.2 billion euros just under 7.5 %.
