Demetrios Farmakopoulos

Dimitrios Farmakopoulos (also transcribed Pharmakopoulos Demetrios, Greek Δημήτριος Φαρμακόπουλος; May 22nd, 1919 in Athens, † 1996 ) was a Greek painter who mainly addressed the future and outer space in his works.

Farmakopoulos studied painting at the Athens School of Art as a student of Oumbertos Argyros and Konstantinos Parthenis. During World War II he served in the Greek army. After the occupation of Greece, he joined the resistance group EAM.

1953 Farmakopoulos went to Brazil. In Rio de Janeiro, he studied art history and interior design and stage technology. Later, he began a teaching career in the fields of interior design and painting at technical schools in Brazil. In addition, he received orders for the artistic design of buildings and halls. Farmakopoulos also worked as artistic director of the Carnival of Rio and as a set designer for the state Brazilian television. In 1972 he returned to Greece.

Farmakopoulos, also known as Mimi Farmakopoulos, took part for the first time in 1949 at an art exhibition in Athens. Between 1957 and 1969 he took part in numerous Brazilian art exhibitions. Until his death in 1996 Farmakopoulos was an honorary member of the Communist Party of Greece.
