Democratic Party of Albanians

The Albanian Democratic Party (Albanian partia Demokratike Shqiptare, Acronym: PDSH; macedonian Demokratska Partija na Albancite Демократска Партија на Албанците ) is a political party of the Albanian population in Macedonia. It was officially founded on July 6, 1997 in Tetovo and is created by the merger of the Party for Democratic Prosperity of Albanians and the Democratic People's Party. The chair of the PDSH has held since 2007 Menduh Thaci.

Ideology

The party sees itself as the guardian of the rights of the Albanian minority. It supports the integration of Macedonia into the structures of NATO and the European Union.

History

The beginning of the Albanian Democratic Party back to the 13th February 1994 by a split from the Party for Democratic Prosperity Party was founded for Democratic Prosperity of Albanians under its chairman Arbën Xhaferi. This party merged on 11 June 1997 with the small Albanian party, the Democratic People's Party under Ilyaz Halimi. On July 6, 1997 saw the founding congress and the new name Albanian Democratic Party has been set. The first party chairman was Arbën Xhaferi.

2001 was the party chairman Xhaferi signatory to the Ohrid Framework Agreement, which ended the inter-ethnic conflict in the country.

On 30 June 2007 on Menduh Thaci took the party chairmanship. On 2 June 2008, the Party for Democratic Prosperity merged under its chairman Abdulhadi Vejseli with the PDSH.

In the parliamentary elections of 2008, the Albanian Democratic Party gained a total of 8.26 percent of the vote and was therefore unable to secure 11 of the 120 seats. Shortly after the elections, some party members separated and founded the New Democracy, which held until 2011, four seats in parliament, the PDSH contrast, seven deputies. Since the party resigned before the coalition government with the VMRO -DPMNE for non- recognition of the Republic of Kosovo by the Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski (Chairman of the VMRO- DPMNE ), new elections were announced previously. The VMRO- DPMNE subsequently went into an alliance with the Democratic Union for Integration. Until the next parliamentary elections in 2011, the PDSH was together with the Social Democrats and the Party of European future in opposition.

On August 15, 2012, died the former leader of the PDSH, Arbën Xhaferi, after a serious illness in Skopje.
