Democratic Rally

Dimokratikos Synagermos ( Democratic Rally, Greek Δημοκρατικός Συναγερμός, Democratic Assembly ') is a Christian democratic and conservative party in the Republic of Cyprus.

It was founded in 1976 by Glavkos Kliridis. This was been since Cyprus gained its independence in 1960, President of the House of Representatives and as such after the collapse of EOKA B coup in 1974 temporary head of state. Kliridis ran six times for the office of President of the Republic of Cyprus and was elected for a five year term in 1993 and 1998.

In 1997, Nikos Anastasiadis the party chairmanship, which he still holds today.

The Democratic Rally supported the Annan plan to reunify Cyprus. In connection with it some members who were opposed to the official party line were excluded. They joined the centrist Evropaiko comma.

The Democratic Assembly is a member of the European People's Party, the Christian Democratic International and the International Democrat Union.

In the European elections of 2004, the Democratic Rally was the strongest force and could send two deputies in the EPP Group. In the elections for the House of Representatives in 2006, she won 30.3 % of the vote, making it the second largest party, with 18 of the 56 seats it is allocated largest opposition faction.

According to his own statement Dimokratikos Synagermos has 35,000 members.
