Dempsey & Makepeace is a British TV crime series, which aired from 1985 to 1986 on ITV and in Germany from 1988, in Bavaria 3 as well as other third party programs.
Action
The main characters of the series, the English policewoman Lady Harriet "Harry" Makepeace and the offset to London American policeman James "Jim" Dempsey are reluctantly obliged to cooperate as Ermittlerduo in a special unit. The appeal of the series lies in the contrasts, which embodies the Ermittlerduo: It stands for femininity, England and nobility. He is macho, USA and working class.
Background
The series consists of three seasons of 10 episodes. Was directed by Michael Brandon and William Brayne, the scripts were written by Jeffrey Caine and by Ranald Graham. The actors Glynis Barber and Michael Brandon were married in 1989. A German -language DVD set with all the episodes and bonus material appeared in the meantime.
