Denis DeJordy

Denis Emile DeJordy ( born November 12, 1938 in Saint- Hyacinthe, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender and coach, who in 1962 and 1974 for the Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League played. He was the first goalkeeper coach in the NHL.

Career

During his junior time DeJordy played with Stan Mikita for the St. Catharines Teepees in the OHA. He moved within the league to the Peterborough Petes, with whom he reached the final tournament for the Memorial Cup in 1959, but was defeated there.

His first stop at senior level were the Sault Ste. Marie Thunderbirds in the Eastern Professional Hockey League. During his second season, he was brought to the Buffalo Bisons in the AHL. In the season 1962/63 he came for the Chicago Black Hawks to his debut in the NHL. In the season 1964/65 he succeeded against the long-standing number one in goal for the Hawks, Glenn Hall, to enforce. For some years he was now first goalkeeper in Chicago until he was ousted by Tony Esposito in the season 1969/70.

In February 1970, he was released along with two other players on the Los Angeles Kings, the charges for such differences include Bill White to the Blackhawks. Here he was the undisputed choice goalkeeper again. Shortly after the start of the 1971/72 season was exploited at the Kings the opportunity to engage with Rogatien Vachon an absolute top goalie of the Montreal Canadiens and DeJordy had to change in return to Montreal. The Canadiens stood at this time Ken Dryden in goal and it was clear that the battle and the regular place was hopeless. After the season he was further transferred to the New York Islanders. In the package bought the Islanders from Montreal, was also Glenn Resch. As you sat at the Resch Islanders as a back -up of Billy Smith, were given DeJordy from as early as October to the Detroit Red Wings. There he came back to several missions. The next year he played mostly for the Baltimore Clippers in the AHL. Only in one game, he came with the Red Wings used. After four goals conceded in the first third of it has been replaced.

After this season, he ended his active career. The Red Wings put him thereafter as a goalkeeping coach. He was the first coach in the history of the NHL, the special care of the training of goalkeepers.
