Denis William Brogan

Sir Denis William Brogan ( born August 11, 1900 in Glasgow, Scotland; † 5 January 1974) was a British writer and historian.

Life

Brogan studied in Glasgow, Oxford and Harvard, and in 1934 was a member of the Academy of Corpus Christi College (Oxford). From 1939 to 1968 he was a professor of political science at Cambridge. In 1963 he was defeated by Queen Elizabeth II knighted.

Great awareness among the British population became Brogan as an interpreter of American history and politics.

He was brother of the journalist Colm Brogan, married to the archaeologist Olwen Brogan and father of the historian Hugh Brogan.
