Denmark national football team
The Danish national football team is the selection of the best football players of the northern European country Denmark.
Denmark has achieved some success at international level, including the four-time participation in world championships and participation in all European Championships 1984-2004 1992. Denmark was also European champion.
History
The highest win 17:1 against Denmark with France, won in the second game of the Danish National team history, is the largest margin of victory for a European team. He was, until September 7, 1963 also the largest margin of victory in an international match and was then surpassed by Tahiti in the match against the Solomon Islands ( 18:0 ). Denmark was before the First World War to the best continental European teams, but then disappeared into obscurity. Although succeeded at the 2nd European Championship 4th place, but here we had a lucky draw, as they met in the first few games only on Malta, Albania and Luxembourg, where against Luxembourg still a playoff was necessary.
In 1979 Sepp Piontek the post of national coach with the Danes. In the following period came to and after the success. In the qualifiers for Euro 2012, it got the Danes in Group H with Norway, Cyprus, Iceland and again to do Portugal. The Danes began with the qualification only on the second match; Here Iceland was defeated 1-0. Over the qualification you were involved in a three-way battle with Portugal and Norway. For a preliminary decision is made on 6 September 2011; Norway was defeated 2-0. Denmark thus played against Portugal for first place in the table, which Norway was also prematurely out of the qualification.
The final decision for the top spot was only in the last qualifying match on 11 October 2011 - against Portugal. In this case Denmark won 2-1 and was thus qualified for the finals.
In the group stage the team met with the Netherlands, Portugal and again to Germany. These three teams were randomly assigned in early December 2011, the Danish team.
The tournament started, the Danes with a surprising 1-0 win over the Netherlands. It was the first victory against the " Oranje " since 1967, also the first victory against the Dutch in a competitive match. Portugal lost against the Scandinavians with 2:3, after the team offsetting a 0:2 residue. Denmark had to win against Germany in order to create the next round.
Against the neighboring country but they lost 1-2. The end result was the resignation. In Group B, occupied the red- white third place, ahead of the point-less Dutch.
Denmark is one of the few countries that could often qualify for an EM as a World Cup. Otherwise, this was only Greece, Latvia and Turkey, but only come together on the EM- participation of Denmark.
Denmark at the Olympics
In the early years, the Danish team was very successful at the Olympics. In the unofficial 1906 Games won Denmark, represented by a Copenhagen city selection, the Gold Medal, 1908, 1912 and 1960, silver in 1948 and bronze medal. In 1972 they reached the second round again. The Danish national team was one of the few Western European senior national teams that took part until the 1980s in the Olympics and the qualifying matches to do so.
