Dennis Eberhard

Dennis Eberhard ( born 1943 in Cleveland, † May 25, 2005 ibid ) was an American composer and music educator.

Eberhard studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Kent State University and the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. His composition teachers were Marie Martin, Frederick Coulter, Salvatore Martirano and Włodzimierz Kotonski, electroacoustic and computer music, he studied with Gordon Mumma and Herbert Brno. He taught at the University of Illinois, Western Illinois University, the University of Nebraska, the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Cleveland State University, and gave guest lectures at other universities.

From 1969 to 1972 he worked at the Experimental Music Studio at the University of Illinois. In 1973 he traveled to Poland, where his multimedia work Dialogues II was performed at the Warsaw Autumn Festival. A Prix de Rome enabled him in 1977 to stay at the American Academy in Rome. In 1980 he returned to the United States. He has received commissions here, inter alia, the Cleveland Chamber Symphony of the Cleveland Octet and the Cleveland Orchestra and composed in 1990 Cadenza & Interludes for the International Music Festival of Performers and Artists for Nuclear Disarmament ( PAND ) in Helsinki.

As 1998, the Festival Orchestra of the PAND under Steve Smith the premiere of Prometheus Wept ( August 6, August 9, 1945 ) to commemorate the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. 2002 Eberhard traveled to Saint Petersburg for the premiere of his Piano Concerto Shadow of the Swan with pianist Halida Dinova.
