Dennis Martínez National Stadium

The Estadio Nacional Dennis Martínez is a sports stadium in Managua, Nicaragua. It is primarily used for baseball and football games, but also for concerts and religious events.

Naming

The stadium was renamed three times. At first it was called " El Estadio Nacional ". After the reconstruction as a result of the earthquake of 23 December 1972 by the Managua destroyed 90 percent, it was named after Anastasio Somoza García. After the Sandinista Revolution of 1979, the naming was done by Rigoberto López Pérez, who in 1956 made ​​an attempt to Anastasio Somoza García. Since 20 November 1998 the 50th anniversary of the opening of the stadium, it's called " Estadio Nacional Dennis Martínez ". Dennis Martinez was the first Nicaraguan, who played in Major League Baseball.
