Dennis Morgan
Dennis Morgan ( born December 20, 1908 in Prentice, Wisconsin; † 7 September 1994 in Fresno, California, Earl Stanley Morner actually ) was an American singer and film actor.
Life
During his school years in Wisconsin Dennis Morgan acted in plays and was a member of a choral society. Later he went to the Carroll College in Waukesha, where he belonged to the football team. He then studied singing at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee and then at the American Conservatory in Chicago. After his vocal training he worked as a radio announcer and traveled together around with an opera troupe, with the he performed, among others, Bizet's Carmen. In the film, he joined from 1936 first under his real name Stanley Morner in small supporting roles in productions of MGM and Paramount Pictures on.
As it 1939 Warner Brothers took them under contract, he got his stage name Dennis Morgan. A year later, he had his breakthrough in Miss Kitty ( Kitty Foyle, 1940) on the side of Ginger Rogers. The 1.88-meter Morgan became then a popular singer and performer of the American film. With his best friend Jack Carson he was in more than ten films together in front of the camera, such as in Wings of Eagle ( 1942) and Thank Your Lucky Stars ( 1943). Since the 1950s, he frequently starred in television productions, such as in the TV series Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1958). When his friend Errol Flynn died on October 14, 1959, he sang at his funeral the song Home Is the Sailor.
In the 1960s, Morgan moved progressively back from show business and worked successfully as a businessman. He and his wife Lillian Vedder, he had in 1933 led to the altar, Morgan was married until his death. The marriage produced two sons, Stanley Jr. and James, and daughter Kristin went out. The latter was seen as an eight year old with her father in the film My Wild Irish Rose (1947). Dennis Morgan died in 1994 in Fresno to respiratory failure. He was on the Oakhill Cemetery in Oakhurst, California, buried.
