Denys Zacharopoulos

Denys Zacharopoulos (Greek Ντένης Ζαχαρόπουλος, born June 11, 1952 in Athens ) is an art historian and art theorist, who works as a professor of art history, author and curator, including for the 48th Venice Biennale and Documenta IX.

Life

Denys Zacharopoulos studied at the Athens Conservatory and Music from 1970 in France literature, semantics, and philosophy, history and sociology then the art and literature of Jean Cassou, Gaëtan Picon, Louis Marin and Roland Barthes. In 1975, Denys Zacharopoulos program coordinator of the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. Then stay in New York and taught at various art schools in Switzerland, Austria and Holland.

During this time, personal contacts with many artists of his generation, especially James Welling, Matt Mullican, Ernst Caramelle, Jean -Marc Bustamante, Juan Muñoz, Thomas Schütte and Reinhard Mucha.

Art Scientific activities

Key activities were first Arte Povera and the art of the 70s. Since 2001, extensive publications and exhibitions on artistic production and the question of the avant-garde in the second half of the 20th century.
