Deoxyuridine ( dU or short DNA sequences only U) is a nucleoside and consists of the nucleobase uracil and the sugar deoxyribose, β -D -. It comes in the DNA only rarely, since only deoxythymidine acts as a base partner of adenine in the rule.
Deoxyuridine differs only by the absence of a methyl group of deoxythymidine, one of the four main constituents of DNA. The methyl group causes a slight stabilization of the double-stranded form of DNA.
