Department of Environment and Conservation (Western Australia)

The Department of Environment and Conservation ( DEC short ) of Western Australia was established on 1 July 2006. It originated from the merger of the Department of Environment and the Department of Conservation and Land Management ( CALM).

The DEC is subordinate to the Minister for the Environment and has as its main task is to protect nature and preserve it. This DEC is responsible in Western Australia for the administration and management of all protected areas, including national parks, marine parks, conservation parks, State Forests, Timber Reserves, Nature Reserves, Marine Nature Reserves and Marine Management Areas. The Authority are currently more than 273,718 km ² (in 2009 ), representing more than 10 % of the total area of ​​Western Australia.
