Děpold I of Jamnitz

Děpold (also: Děpolt; German: Prince Theobald I of Bohemia Jamnitz, † 1167 in Italy) was a Bohemian prince from the Přemyslovci.

Life

His youngest son Prince Vladislav I left the lands around Jehnice. 1145 to Děpold combined with other lands partakers of Moravia and attacked the Olomouc Bishop Heinrich Zdik. This earned him a excommunication, from which he was however solved by a pilgrimage to Rome.

After his brother, the ruling prince Vladislav II, to set out on a crusade to Palestine, was Děpold land managers. He ruled with strict order and prevented the takeover of Prince Soběslav, which he captured in Zdice 1148.

1153 Děpold married Gertrude, a daughter of Margrave Albert the Bear. His daughter Hedwig was married to Frederick I of Landsberg (c. 1145 ), and sat on the counties Landsberg and Camburg.

After the wedding, he accompanied his brother on some military campaigns. In 1158 he went with this to the siege of Milan in Italy, in order to support the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. In the following years led Děpold more armies of Czech soldiers to Italy. where he died of the plague.

His descendants, the princes of Děpold, formed a line of Přemyslids, whose members were mostly located in northern Bohemia.
