Der Fels

The artist group The rock existed from circa 1920 until 1927., An exact founding date is unknown. It goes back to the meeting of Franz Bronstert, Fritz Fuhrken and Georg Philipp Wörlen prisoner of war camp Ripon in Yorkshire, England. Additional members were also Reinhard Hilker and the Austrian painter and graphic Carry Hauser on the rock. Wörlen, who was considerably older than the others, was the driving force. At the last joint exhibition of expressionist artists who during the Nazi dictatorship all as "degenerate" were later also Fritz Stuckenberg involved.

The rock published in this period, a series of eight portfolios with broadsheets (publishing war, Leipzig). Enclosed with the first episode was a manifesto of folding Heinz Roth:

Do you see things as they are? Shape is trim, eye illusion. Things are not as you think to see them! Drum will quietly and simply, because you look out of your eyes and looks at the surface only. The artist fights titanic struggle, the things wrest the soul to penetrate into the depth to overcome the surface. So is EXPRESSION. - And such a one the rock people.
