Der Freund

The friend was a literary magazine of Axel Springer AG. It was published by Christian Kracht, editor Eckhart Nickel. The editorial office was located in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The friend appeared every three months; in total there were eight editions within two years. The first issue was published on 23 September 2004, the last on 15 June 2006. Friend The texts presented in great detail as well as the art of drawing, the obscure illustration. It joined the ranks of essays, short stories, literary miniatures, columns, poems, and in-depth interviews in an amusing forum together. Most of the texts published in German; now and then in English and French.

Were among the authors of The Friend, among others, Rem Koolhaas, Hans -Ulrich Obrist, Jonathan Safran Foer, Alain Robbe- Grillet, Julia Franck, Alban Nikolai Herbst, David Woodard, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Ingo Niermann, Momus, Albert Osterhaus Maier, Rafael Horzon, Albert Hofmann, Reinhold Messner, Rezzonico hose, Vladimir Sorokin and Eduardo Kac. The illustrators included, among others, the Slovenian art collective NSK and the Swiss artists Fischli & Weiss. Reprinted under license stories or poetry from Truman Capote to Allen Ginsberg. Detailed interviews were conducted, among others, David Lynch, Nam June Paik, Stanisław Lem and Albert Hofmann.

Much appreciation was the friend for his design and his title pages. In March 2006, the magazine won two awards: the Bronze Nail from the Art Directors Club in category " magazine layout " and the Lead Gold Award in the category " Cover of the Year ".
