Der Jude (magazine)

The Jew. A monthly magazine was founded by Martin Buber and Salman Schocken Jewish magazine that was published from 1916 to 1928.

It was published by Buber, the editorial team were Max Mayer (1886-1967), Max Mayer Präger (1889-1942), Gustav Krojanker (1891-1945), Ernst and Simon Siegmund Kaznelson.

The Jew appeared from 1916 to 1928 per month in R. Löwit Verlag ( Berlin / Vienna). The issues of the last two vintages were published irregularly. The edition was 3000-5000 copies.

The Buber's journal was the third use of this title, published after 1768-1772 by Gottfried Selig and from 1832 by Gabriel Sandriesser magazine of the same name, although they were all wearing the same three titles, but were designed completely different. The first magazine of this name was an almost anti-Semitic sheet. There was also a 1895 published in New York in German language weekly magazine under the title The Jew.

Martin Buber was in 1903 - together with Chaim Weizmann and Berthold Feiwel - (a " Review of Jewish modernity" ) to bring out a magazine entitled The Jew, but this could not be realized.
