The Congress is dancing a German UFA film from the year 1931.

Action

The film takes place in 1815 in Vienna during the Congress of Vienna. Vienna at that time is the most important city in Europe, where meet the rulers of the world. The young Christel Weinzinger is a glove -maker. She applies her business by, throwing a bouquet of flowers with their business card in each Monarch's carriage that passes by. Here she meets the Russian Tsar Alexander accidentally in the head. The bouquet is initially mistaken for a bomb and Christel accused of an assassination attempt. Background

The Congress Dances was the first major music film by German sound film. Director Erik Charell was in Berlin director great revues and operettas, and set his revue style to now on the canvas in perfection. The film is characterized by its time for high speed and great ball scenes. For the most success of the film was Christels song, better known under the name of The There's only one (music by Werner Richard Heymann, Text: Robert Gilbert ). Also very well known, sung by Paul Hörbiger wine tavern song is It must be a piece of heaven, Vienna and Wine ... ( text also by Robert Gilbert ) was used at the Heymann the melody of the waltz My resume is love and lust by Josef Strauss. Also on the waltz Sphärenklänge attacks Heymann back at key points. The film had its world premiere on 29 September 1931 in Vienna, and ran from 20 October 1931 in the German cinemas.

Since the early 30 's, the dubbing of films was not common, the Congress was punched parallel to the German- even in an English and French version rotated. While Lilian Harvey starred in all three versions (which you sign a contract with the U.S. studio 20th Century Fox earned ), the role of Tsar Alexander was adopted in the English and French versions of Henri Garat.

The film was banned on 1 October 1937 by the Board of Film.

Remake

With The Congress dances originated in 1955 under the direction of Franz Antel a remake. The main roles were played by Johanna Matz ( Christel ), Rudolf Prack (Alexander ), Karl Schönböck ( Metternich ) and Gunther Philipp ( Pepi ). The same music was used as the original for this film.
