Derbent Khanate

The Khanate Derbent was a state in present-day Dagestan in Russia, which existed from 1747 to 1806. The area extended along the coast of the Caspian Sea and included parts of present-day Azerbaijan to Sumgayit. The capital was Derbent.

History

After the Russians had captured Derbent in 1722 by the Persians, it was awarded to them in the peace treaty in 1723. Peter I settled in a triumphal procession in Moscow recite the silver key of the iron gates of Derbent. 1736 Derbent was returned by the Russians in Persia under Nadir Shah. When he died, an independent khanate was founded in Derbent.

During an expedition of the Russians in Persia it was taken in 1796 by an army under Valerian Zubov. 1806 was conquered again and annexed by the Russian Empire, which was accepted in 1813 by the Treaty of Gulistan by the Persians.
