Derek MacKenzie

Derek MacKenzie ( born June 11, 1981 in Greater Sudbury, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since 2007 in the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Derek MacKenzie began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at the Sudbury Wolves, which until 2001 he was active from 1997 in the Canadian Junior Football League Ontario Hockey League. During this period, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 in the fifth round as the 128th overall player of the Atlanta Thrashers. From 2001 to 2007, the Center was a regular player in the farm team of the Thrashers for the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. His greatest success with the Chicago Wolves was winning the Calder Cup in the 2001/ 02 season. In parallel, he was occasionally used as a reserve player for the Atlanta Thrashers of the National Hockey League.

On 11 July 2007 MacKenzie signed a contract as a free agent with the Columbus Blue Jackets. In the first three years in the franchise from Ohio, he played mainly for their AHL farm team Syracuse Crunch and only sporadically for Columbus in the NHL. In the season 2010/11 the first time Canadians spent his career in a full season in the NHL and scored for the Blue Jackets in 63 games 23 points scorer, nine gates.

Internationally

For Canada MacKenzie took part in the U20 World Youth Championship 2001, where he won the bronze medal with his team.
