Derek Parra

Derek Parra ( born March 15, 1970 in San Bernardino, California) is an American speed skater.

He won the gold medal in the 1500 meters and 5000 meters silver behind the Dutchman Jochem Uytdehaage at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Parra was world champion in -line skating, before switching to speed skating, roller blading there was not olympic. His most successful season was the season 2001/ 2002. In addition to winning the two Olympic medals he held briefly the world record in the 5,000 meters and was third in the all-around world championships.

At the 2006 Olympics in Turin, he could not convince and took over 1500 meters on the 19th Place.

He lives in Orlando ( Florida), is married and has one daughter.
