Derek Tapscott

Derek Robert " Tappy " Tapscott (* June 30, 1932 in Barry, † 12 June 2008) was a Welsh football player.

The striker began his career at Barry Town in the Southern League. In 1953 he moved to FC Arsenal for £ 2.750. Already in his first game in April 1954 against Liverpool, he contributed two goals in a 3-0 victory. He was appointed to the first squad of the Welsh national team for a World Cup qualifier against Austria Subsequently, for whom he played 14 games and scored four goals. For the World Cup in Sweden, he was not part of the Welsh squad. Tapscott played five years for Arsenal and scored in 132 matches in the league and the cup 68 goals. In September 1958 he joined for £ 10,000 to Cardiff City. For the club, he played 234 first-and second-division and cup matches and scored as the top scorer of the time until 1965 101 goals.
