Derib

Derib (actually Claude de Ribaupierre; born August 8, 1944 in La Tour -de- Peilz, Canton of Vaud ) is a Swiss cartoonist. He has published more than fifty comic albums.

1965 Derib joined in the studio by Peyo, The Smurfs he worked on the hit series until 1970. In the same year he produced for foreign scenarios several episodes of the series Oncle Paul for the magazine Spirou. In 1967 appeared with the opening volumes of Attila and held in the style of the École Marcinelle Funny series The Adventures of Pythagoras his first album long work. Both series show more clearly the influence of his great role model Peyo.

After Derib 1970 returned to Switzerland, he changed his style. The first project was Yakari, which was created by scenario of job (aka André Jobin ). The series is about the Indian boy Yakari who can talk to animals. Yakari addressed though - as Deribs previous work - to children, but with the theme of the series he had a new subject being tested, he should always abgewinnen new pages in virtually all its following stories: The world and the lives of Indians, primarily the Sioux tribes. The clearest he formulated his ideas about the relationship between " white " and " red " culture in its most successful series Buddy Longway, which he drew for Tintin since 1972, as well as in the trilogy The Way of the Shaman and the four-part series Red Road, which with the genocide of the Indians employed and its aftermath in the present. For Red Road, he was awarded the 1994 Max and Moritz Award for the best German-language publication.

In the 1990s he also began to draw more socially motivated comics. So 1991 Jo, the first published comic about AIDS and 1995 Pour toi, Sandra a comic book about prostitution.
