Dermal papillae

Under ridges refers to the characteristic lines in the skin of the palm and sole of the foot. This form is also referred to as skin strips skin. This dermal ridges arise because the papillae ( papillary ) dermis are arranged in longitudinal rows. Each ridge line is underlain by two Papillarkörperreihen. Since these lines are unique to each person, they are used to identify a person.

Ridges there are also in other species, such as gorillas and koalas.

Stamp on the fingers

Fingerprints are images of so-called ridges. A fingerprint depends not only on the human genome, but on numerous factors, of which the science are not all known. One of the theories is that the diet of the unborn child on the shape of the pattern that develops for the fourth month of embryonic decides.

The pattern of ridges remains largely unchanged until death, which a fingerprint is individual; Occasionally, however, the phenomenon of the formation of intermediate strips can be observed. Since the intermediate strips differ in the structure of the ridges, the assignment of fingerprints is still possible. Moreover, it was demonstrated that spacer bars, once formed, are permanent, and so the individuality of a fingerprint is increased.

The spacer bars formation is triggered by natural aging processes, in which the distance between the ridges. However, a greater dermal ridge reduces the tactility of the fingertip. To obtain this, the intermediate bars are now retracted.

It has never been discovered with the same fingerprint two people, not even identical twins.
