Dermoid sinus

The dermal sinus (English dermal sinus ) is a small congenital skin opening with a narrow passageway and ends in contrast to blind fistula in deeper tissue layers. Not infrequently resulting growing hair tufts are observed. As the meningocele is localized predominantly on the back on the center line in the lumbar region of the dermal sinus. In some cases, the dermal fibrous connective tissue than is continued into the spinal cord and is combined in such cases with spina bifida occulta. In other cases, a lipoma or dermoid cyst is observed at the aisle end.

In most cases a dermal without symptoms. However, they represent a potential source of infection for the deeper tissues or even the spinal canal and be rehabilitated surgically in such cases. Under the light microscope, they represent as small channels in collagenous connective tissue, which are lined with keratinizing squamous epithelium.
