Dernancourt

Dernancourt ( Picard: Dèrnincourt ) is a northern French village with 442 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) by the Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is part of the Canton of Albert and is part of the Communauté de communes du Pays du Coquelicot.

Geography

Dernancourt lies immediately south of Albert on the right bank of the Ancre. The municipality is crossed by the department of roads D52 and D64, and extends north to the department of road D929 (formerly Route nationale 29). Passing through the municipality, the railway line Paris -Lille.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1287 on the occasion of a gift of Henri de Dernant. In World War Dernancourt was the site of fighting during the Battle of the Somme in July 1916, and at the German offensive in April 1918. The municipality received the Croix de guerre as a distinction from 1914 to 1918.
