Dérogeance

Dérogeance (French, literally: " humiliation " ) meant the loss of the noble title and the aristocratic privileges due to unstandesgemäßem behavior. These included, among others, the exercise of professions, which is incompatible or which were not considered worthy of the nobility.

Thus led to modern times in most European countries the practice of a craft by a nobleman to Dérogeance. Exception was England, which proved to be a favorable factor for the Industrial Revolution.
