Des Browne

Desmond Henry Browne, Baron Browne of Ladyton ( born March 22, 1952 in Kilwinning, North Ayrshire, Scotland) is a British politician, a member of the Scottish Labour Party. He is a member of the British Parliament and was Minister of Defence and Scotland minister in the government of Gordon Brown.

Browne studied law at the St Michael 's Academy in Kilwinning and at the University of Glasgow. In the 1997 parliamentary elections, he was elected to the House of Commons of the British Parliament. In 2003 he was Minister of State in 2001 newly created Department for Work and Pensions. From 2004 to 2005 he worked in the Ministry of Interior, where he was in charge of immigration. After the 2005 parliamentary elections was State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, on 5 May 2006 he succeeded John Reid as defense minister. from 2007 to the end of the Brown government, he was also Minister of Scotland.
