Désandans

Désandans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Désandans is located at 380 m, 10 km west-northwest of the city of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the northern part of the plateau, which is nestled in the rolling landscape between the river valleys of the Doubs River in the south and Ognon in the northwest, east of the height of the Bois d' Arcey.

The area of ​​5.47 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside north of Doubstals. The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Arcey, the average is at 380 m and is slightly inclined towards the east. It has a width of four kilometers and a length of about five kilometers and is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. The whole area shows no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground of the Causse. To the northwest, the communal land extends to the densely wooded ridge of the Bois d' Arcey, on the 514 meters, the highest elevation of Désandans is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Désandans are Chavanne and Le Vernoy in the north, Aibre, Semondans and Échenans in the east, the south and Arcey Villers -sur- Saulnot in the West.

History

Finds of flint arrowheads and bone remains indicate a population of the municipality of Désandans in prehistoric times. Since the Middle Ages Désandans belonged to the county of Montbéliard. With the occupation of that county, the village came in 1793 final in French hands. Today Désandans is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes de la Vallée du Rupt.

Attractions

The present church of Saint -Michel was built in 1724 in classic style. In the old town several farmhouses in the traditional style of the Franche -Comté are from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Population

With 716 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Désandans one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1881 407 persons were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1960s again. Since then, the population has more than doubled.

Economy and infrastructure

Désandans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises as well as various shops retailing. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Montbéliard.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road N83, which runs from Besancon to Belfort. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 15 km. Further road links exist with Sainte -Marie and Échenans.
