Descent: Journeys in the Dark (English Descent: Journeys in the Dark ) is a board game from the fantasy range.

Background

Much like Hero Quest or talisman this game inspired by one of fantasy role playing games. In the original, the game of Fantasy Flight Games has been moved. The game has no connection to the Descent computer game series, but with the previously published Doom board game based on the eponymous computer game. The game shares a universe with Runebound. The author is Kevin Wilson. In German language it was published in 2006 in Heidelberg games publisher.

Game Description

Up to four players each choose a hero and try to perform a task as a group in a built-on according to the instructions dungeon. Opposite them is another player who takes on the role of Overlord. In the dungeon, the group of heroes encounters monsters and traps, which are commanded by the Overlord. To pass, the heroes need to improve their equipment and tactically. Each hero has movement, life and endurance points and an armor value. A particular distribution on melee, ranged and magic talents ensures a distribution of roles within the group. The game is turn-based, always pull so that group of heroes and Overlord alternately.

The aim of the hero is tackling the task posed at the beginning, during the Overlord wins the game if he manages to sufficiently kill many heroes. Besides the possibility to activate from the ground up existing monsters, are for this purpose to the Overlord cards are available with which he created, for example, new monsters, reinforce existing monsters, traps play or can add to the dungeon new permanent effects.

The battle is being fought over a cube system in which the basic talents of heroes and monsters, as well as equipment and special skills have influence on which and how many dice are rolled.

During the 1st, 2nd and 4th expansion bring particularly new game elements, in Paths of Glory a campaign system is introduced, which is in Sea of ​​Blood to the second round. In addition, four separate heroes and 10 to the campaign extension " Paths of Glory " belonging miniatures were released.
