Design rule for Camera File system

Design rule for Camera File system (abbreviated DCF) is a file system standard of the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association ( JEITA ), which is cross-platform and vendor independent implemented by digital cameras. The specification defines specific directory structures, filenames, fonts, file formats and metadata formats. So must include a thumbnail DCF files metadata in the Exif standard format and a 160 by 120 pixel measuring JPEG preview.

The main directory of the file system in a digital camera 's DCF-compliant contains a folder DCIM (Digital Camera Images). In this are possibly several sub- directories where the actual images are stored. The names of the directories have the pattern " three digits followed by any five characters " follow (eg 100_PANA ). Each directory must be given a different number. Usually the directories are numbered (eg 100_PANA, 101_PANA, 102_PANA etc.).

For the file name, the following rules apply. They consist of eight characters, the first four alphanumeric characters are mostly " DSC_ " or " DSC0 " is followed by a four digit number with leading zeros, followed by a point separated the 3 buchstabige file type. From the definition DCF 2.0, the color space in the first 4 characters will be encoded, currently only sRGB or Adobe RGB. sRGB images begin with any alphanumeric characters, or pictures in Adobe RGB begin with an underscore ("_" ), so that there the first four characters are typically " _DSC ".
