Desná (Jablonec nad Nisou District)

Desna ( German Dessendorf ) is a city in Okres Jablonec nad Nisou in northern Bohemia. The resort is located in the Iron Mountains ( Jizera Hory ) near the ski center Špičák ( Spitzberg ), three kilometers north of Tanvald.

The town lies in the valley of the river White and Black Desse and on the surrounding slopes. In Desna 3550 inhabitants living on 12.6 km ².

History

Desna was founded in 1691 by Count Albrecht Maximilian Desfours. The Land Registry is the place originally entered as Des Four or village. It came into use by the location on the river Desse the name Dessendorf. From the mid-19th century made ​​Dessendorf a municipality in the district court Tannwald.

The largest boom the town in the second half of the 20th century, was opened as a spa. This was later closed. Now is in place, a park with the architecturally interesting Riedel villa which was built in 1895 by Josef Riedel glass factory.
