The Desna ( German Dessert ) is a left tributary of the KAMENICE in Jizera Mountains, Czech Republic.

The 3 km long mountain river originates in the town of Desna by the Association of Bila Desna and the Cerna Desna. The Desse flows in a southerly direction and empties into Tanvald in the Kamenice.

The Desna held regular heavy floods. Strong floods are known from the years 1858, 1875, 1885 and 1888. After the hundred year flood of 29 July 1897 on a day where 310 mm of rain had fallen, it was decided to erect dams for flood protection. But precisely because it was the biggest flood disaster. After the breaking of the dam on the White Desse the tsunami taught widespread destruction along the river in Dessendorf ( Desna ) and Tannwald ( Tanvald ).

Bila Desna

The Bila Desna ( German White Dessert ) is the right or western source river of the Dessert. It rises in the marsh area west of Mount Jizera ( Siechhübel, 1122 m) and flows south-easterly direction through the forests of the Jizera Mountains until after Desna, where it joins 12 km to the Cerna Desna. Once was a dam on the White Dessert. It is broken on 18 September 1916. Your leftovers are called Broken Dam ( Protržená prehrada ).

Cerna Desna

The Cerna Desna ( German Black Desse ) is the left or eastern source of the river Desna. It rises in a bog east of the Jizera ( Siechhübel ) and flows in a southerly direction until after Desna, where it joins 13 km to the Bila Desna.
